Summer capsule, with thanks to Janice

One of my favourite blogs is The Vivienne Files, with some lovely and unexpected ideas for capsule wardrobe planning.

Janice posted recently with a capsule based on a painting, The Blue Pool, by Augustus John. The colours spoke to me immediately, fresh and summery and full of my beloved turquoise.

Here’s Janice’s capsule. If you go over to the original post you can see how she combines these items into some elegantly wearable outfits. Plus you can click through to buy things too (which will benefit Janice).

The mustard jumped out at me, especially as I am mulling over whether to introduce mustard into my own wardrobe.  I think it works really well here, and brings together sand, sun, sea and sky. But I don’t have much success wearing a block of yellow next to my face. Instead I chose a skirt or trousers, or as part of a print with blues, or as accessories

Sand coloured barbs
Mustard skirt reversible to a mustard/navy print voile.
Sleeveless shirt in the same voile
Turquoise capri pants
Aqua tee
White tee
Sand jeans jacket
Turquoise cardigan

I have a turquoise bag, turquoise shoes, white bag, sand sandals, and necklaces in shades of turquoise.

This dovetails with the summer 6 pac: boring basics (plain prints, simple patterns)

Aqua and White tees, barbs, capri pants and jeans jacket all make an appearance. Added to that a navy marl cardigan.
