Unusual and challenging sewing techniques

I was having a conversation with somebody recently about the different techniques we use in sewing clothes. So I began to make a list. I'm not talking about the basics like laying out a pattern, cutting, simple darts. They are important for sure, but I'm more...

I've been shopping for plants at Farmer Gracy for the great garden redesign of 2025. These arrived today and are now potted up, parked in the greenhouse and doing their thing while I get the borders ready. Photos and descriptions from the Farmer Gracy websiteOne...

Wardrobe Architect: Week 2; my core style

Sewing

If you’re following along with the Wardrobe Architect project on the Coletterie, you’ll have seen the worksheets designed to help identify your own personal style. The first week asked us to think about things like our personal history, culture, community and values. The responses to those questions are distilled here into a more defined personal style.
When you are wearing your favorite clothing, how do you feel (e.g. confident, sexy, poised, powerful, etc)?
My favourite clothes are comfortable but still elegant and stylish. Not formal or restricting (although properly fitted) I like to mix it up a bit, tailored trousers with a really chunky handknit; or a relaxed shirt with a sharp couture jacket.
Ideally that’s what I’d like to carry through my whole wardrobe, whether at work, dog walking or having lunch out somewhere.
These images are a few from the Pinterest board I created to collate images around this project.
When you’re wearing something that is not quite right, how do
you feel? What are the feelings you want to avoid about the clothes you
wear?
I hate to feel constrained or restricted in my clothes. I hate fussy frills and bows. I hate cheap synthetics and garish colours (but natural jewel brights are fine). I hate to feel ordinary, fat or dowdy.
Who do you consider to be your style icons? What is it about them that appeals to you?
My style icons are women with a classic individual style; Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Uma Thurma, Lauren Bacal. These are real women, polished, well groomed and dressed in expensive clothes, but natural, strong and independent. My pinterest board also features stylish older women I’d love to emulate.
Look over your answers from last week on history, philosophy,
culture, community, activities, location, and body. List at least 15
words that you associate with your answers. Think about descriptive
words, moods, and feelings you associate with these things:

I came up with these:

Individual, natural, classic, elegant, mature, comfortable, timeless, quality, Swedish, handcrafted, creative, eclectic, reused, weathered, relaxed, practical, adventurous, luxurious, simple, textured, familiar, outdoors, clean, warm, informal
Look over the answers to all of the questions above. If you had
to narrow your list to only 3-5 words to describe you, which words would
you choose?
I finally narrowed it down to these:
Individual    because I always try not to conform on some level.
Quality        because it suggests longevity and careful choice.
Relaxed       because I want comfort and ease of wearing even for formal occasions.
Classic        for timeless style
Creative      because I like to add a hand crafted personal touch to every outfit not only by sewing it, but with knitting, embroidery or other embellishment.
Thanks for looking at my choices, I hope you enjoyed them!
