Unusual and challenging sewing techniques

I was having a conversation with somebody recently about the different techniques we use in sewing clothes. So I began to make a list. I'm not talking about the basics like laying out a pattern, cutting, simple darts. They are important for sure, but I'm more...

I've been shopping for plants at Farmer Gracy for the great garden redesign of 2025. These arrived today and are now potted up, parked in the greenhouse and doing their thing while I get the borders ready. Photos and descriptions from the Farmer Gracy websiteOne...

Ginger, chilli and lime chicken

Cooking

Marinaded chicken breasts served with multigrains and green veg

Throw the chicken breasts in the marinade in the morning, then cook in the oven while you prep the grains and veg.

Serves: 4 |  Weight Watchers ProPoints: 7

Ingredients:

4 medium skinless, boneless chicken breasts, about 165g each. (I buy a 1kg pack of 5 from Lidl, use 4 and cook the other to use cold later. There’s usually a small one about the right weight.)

Marinade
1 lime (jiuce and zest)
1/2 bunch fresh coriander, chopped
pinch dried chili flakes (or add more if you like it spicy)
15ml/1 tbs honey
5ml/1 tsp soft brown sugar
2.5cm/1″ piece of root ginger, peeled and grated
15ml sunflower oil
10ml cornflour
5ml/1tsp salt

Directions

Mix all the marinade ingredients together and coat the chicken breasts. leave at least 30 minutes. Overnight is better, or chuck it all in a plastic bag in the morning and cook when you get home in the evening.

Heat oven to 180c

Tip the chicken and marinade onto a baking tray and cook for 35 minutes. Check part way through, adjust time as necessary.

Serve with cooked mixed wholegrains, and some steamed veg or salad. I like tomato and french beans, purple sprouting broccoli or courgette ribbons.
